My itchy dog!

Fleas are an eternal problem but are not the only cause of scratching. Most scratching is caused by allergies. In spring and summer time plants germinate and send pollens out through the atmosphere. Many of these pollens are highly “allergenic” to humans and animals.

That means that they can cause allergic reactions wherever they come into contact. Consequently the eyes, lungs and skin are susceptible. The skin is the most expose organ and is usually the first to react. The result is an irritation such as a rash which causes our pet to “scratch”. The obvious treatment is an anti-histamine such as Avil or Niramine tablets.
